Ashfield — Stage Route Extracted from "History of the Connecticut Valley in Massachusetts, Volume II," by Louis H. Everts, 1879.       The first regular stage-route through the town was private weekly post-route which passed between Northampton and Ashfield, via Whately Centre, in 1789.
